CSD's ImPrint-10 is hereby named, "Canon"!!!		10/23/81 RAS

There is no such thing as a Canon printer at Margaret Jacks Hall.
We do have its successor, an ImPrint-10, manufactured and provided
by the Imagen Corporation.  The ImPrint-10 in our basement is hereby
named `Canon' to honor its ancestors.

Currently, there is no Canon spooler, files must be printed one at a
time.

To print listings, pray.  You might try getting them to Diablo and 
running some simple Texto program; you'll probably print listings
on the Dover.

To print IMP (Impress) files, try DO CPRINT[can,sys]
It will ask you for the filename, on the end of which it will append
the string `.IMP'.  Currently, as the sending program runs, it dumps
a horendous amount of garbage on the screen (try ESC O on a Sail 
terminal to suppress output) as well as int a file IS.LOG.  You should,
meanwhile, hop downstairs and pick up your listing, checking Canon's
error and supply lights.

The Canon is not yet ready for general consumption.  You can print,
but there is no spooler.  Meanwhile, use it at your own risk.

The old Cantor can handle old or new version DVI files, but only the old
     (low 32 bit words) VNT files.  Also it can process XGP files made by
     TEX using FNT files.
An experimental new version of Cantor: NewCan, can process XGP files
    made with PUB (and probably POX).  Very little testing has been done,
    so a few characters may be fuzzy, and who knows what will happen to
    vectors.  Try it and see; send me summaries of deficiencies or bugs.
    Soon new VNT files will exist, and the new Cantor will give output
    true to size (currently output is large).  Soon after, we'll have 
    magnification possible at 1.0, 1.5, 2, and 3.	May 22, RAS

    The printing program CPrint can print ascii files or CAN formatted 
Tex output (.R PTex to produce a DVI file, .R Cantor to make the .can 
file). Any file other than a .CAN file is assumed to contain ascii text.

    You may choose the font with which a text file is printed.  Use 
a FIX font to have the entire SAIL character set.  The default, fix25 
gives 70, fix30 gives 58 and fix20 gives 83 lines per page. 

    Go to the machine room to monitor the Canon as it prints.  To print
a file, .R CPrint.  If this does not work, CALL out of CPrint, .R CStart, 
following the instructions given, and again .R CPrint.

IMPORTANT:
1)  You MUST watch your output being printed to catch any errors that
	could make the Canon spew paper.  Glitches in the line can cause 
	unpredictable errors.  
2)  There is no spooling process; only one person may print a file at a time.  
	Do NOT print a file till the last one is completely out or the last 
	one may be ruined.
3)  IF THE CANON SPEWS PAPER, PULL OUT THE PAPER TRAY and reinitialize.
4)  There are no headers or title pages yet, so any listings lying around
	are fair game for use as samples.
